2022 — Invoca Buyer Experience Benchmark Interactive Report

Interactive Report

From Platform Newbie to Design Challenge Finalist

There's something incredibly humbling about being recognized among the industry's best interactive designers—especially when you're working with a platform for the very first time. When I received the news that my interactive report had been selected as a runner-up in the Ceros Design Challenge, I was both thrilled and amazed that my debut project on the platform had resonated so strongly with the judges.

The Perfect Storm: Inflation, High-Stakes Purchases, and Data Visualization

The project centered around a timely and critical business challenge: understanding how customers navigate high-stakes purchases during inflationary periods. Working with comprehensive survey data from Invoca, I had access to rich insights about consumer behavior during economic uncertainty—but raw data alone doesn't tell a compelling story. The challenge was transforming these critical insights into an engaging, digestible experience that would keep readers invested from start to finish.

Making Data Shine Through Interactive Storytelling

What made this project special wasn't just the subject matter—it was the approach to data presentation. Instead of overwhelming readers with statistics and charts, I crafted an interactive journey that revealed insights progressively, allowing users to discover findings at their own pace. Every scroll, click, and interaction was designed to maintain engagement while ensuring the data remained the hero of the story.

The interactive elements weren't just decorative—they were strategic. Animated data reveals helped emphasize key findings, while interactive hotspots allowed readers to dive deeper into specific metrics that interested them most. This approach transformed what could have been a dry research report into an immersive experience that celebrated the insights while respecting the reader's time and attention.

First Project, Top Recognition

Perhaps what makes this achievement most meaningful is that it represented my first experience with the Ceros platform. Learning a new interactive design tool while simultaneously crafting a competition-worthy experience pushed me to think differently about data visualization and user engagement. The recognition validated not just the final product, but the learning journey and creative risks taken throughout the process.

Being named a top four runner-up in the Ceros Design Challenge proved that effective interactive design isn't about platform mastery—it's about understanding your audience, respecting your data, and creating experiences that make complex information accessible and engaging.

The Intersection of Design and Business Impact

This project exemplified how strategic design thinking can elevate business content beyond traditional boundaries. By focusing on reader engagement and data accessibility, the interactive report didn't just present findings—it created an experience that made economic insights memorable and actionable for business leaders navigating uncertain times.

"Making inflation data engaging enough to earn top industry recognition reminded me why I became a designer—to transform complex information into experiences that genuinely serve people."
